Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid gels that are effectively used in a variety of different ways from filling deep lines to revolumising, adding structure and symmetry to the face. Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules so can also help to hydrate the skin. Fillers come in many different thicknesses for use depending on the area to be treated. For example a firm filler would be needed to sharpen the jawline, a voluminous filler to plump the cheeks, soft filler for lips and a very fluid filler for treating the tear troughs.

There are several brands of dermal fillers available. Treatments are carried out after using a topical anaesthetic cream or small injection to numb the area. Filler is injected under the skin using small needles or cannulas depending on the area treated and the results required. Downtime is usually minimal , but there can be bruising, redness and swelling in the days / weeks following the treatment. For this reason it is advised to have treatments at least 3 weeks before any important event. 
 
The results of the treatment are seen straight away and usually last between 6-12 months, varying from person to person and the area treated.
